New technologies for a journey into the past: history is an educational experience
At the meeting of the 2nd Alpine Troop Grouping of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna (A.N.A.) on 20th and 21st of October, the Alpini veterans organized an exhibition entitled “One hundred years ago” at Villa Sormani to commemorate the centennary of the end of the Great War in Italy.
The exhibition was designed to combine new technologies with objects from the past, with the aim of creating an experience in which children – used to video games and virtual reality – can learn about the reality of wars, and that “restart buttons” don’t exist in warfare.
The core of this historical and civic educational journey are the holograms presented within a “prêt-à-porter” structure by Studio Tangram – the new ‘EyeMagic Double’. The hologram of the sectional president of Como – Enrico Gaffuri – passionately narrates the adventures and the importance that the Black Feathers had and still have: Challenges, the esprit de corps, the strong bond between members of the same regiment and the solidarity between Alpinos that lasts even after the discharge. The President’s speech is followed by Alpino Domenico Regazzoni’s hologram, playing the classic “Il Silenzio”
The newly unveiled ‘EyeMagic Double’ was set up for the occasion: The Alpini’s 3D holograms were combined with a themed background, where historic images of historical places and artefacts made the visual experience even more engaging, exciting and complete. The comprehensible visual language fascinated an audience of all age: Whereas the elderly took a dip in the past, new generations were able to discover an important period of history and learn about some of the heroic deeds of the Alpini.
