Holographic Theatre at Milan Malpensa Airport

“Studio Tangram holographic technology expands the bounds of reality and exceed all expectations to capture the audience’s attention and make each event a memorable experience.”

On the 29th of June 2015, SEA president Pietro Modiano proudly introduced a new technologically advanced structure.

Milan Malpensa Airport is, in fact, the first airport in the world to have a permanent theatre for holographic projections, where visitors can enjoy 3D contents without using specific glasses.

At Malpensa Airport Terminal 1, the entrance turned into “Soglia Magica”, the big space housing the exhibition. A weightless curtain of light and artificial fog illuminated the passage of travellers.

The architects wanted to capture the imagination of those passing by, even of those in a hurry.

Holographic Theatre  produced by Studio Tangram – Italian partner of MDH Hologram and world leader for holographic technology – perfectly fulfilled the architects’ requests.

SEA, the operator of Milan Linate and Milan Malpensa airports, has always supported the arts by organising exhibitions, concerts, and cultural events.

This time it also gave the audience the chance to live a new sensory experience.

During the opening ceremony, also Monsignor Borgonovo – President of Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano – and Sergio Gianzini – Director of I.S.S.M. Giacomo Puccini in Gallarate – acclaimed this innovative communication form.

Everyone entering the Terminal 1 of the airport could enjoy the projections running, for a total of 30 minutes, from 8am to 10pm everyday.

The project was conceived as an ever-changing installation that could always surprise the viewer while entering or leaving the airport. The first projections, 7 different clips both in Italian and English, showed the city of Milan – real star of the event together with SEA. The city landmarks, such as the majestic Duomo, were masterly illustrated by the hologram of famous art historian Philippe Daverio. No one could help humming the famous songs, reinterpreted by the holograms of the talented students of Gallarate Conservatory, or being captivated by Fausto Melotti’s Sette Savi. In 2013, in fact, Melotti’s sculptures underwent a restoration project, sponsored by SEA and Milan municipality.

About

To create the holograms we used an Holographic Theatre installation. The overall structure was 9.6m x 7.2m x 4.1m.

Reactions

Newspapers, magazines and social media spread the news, so that the Holographic Theatre of Malpensa was literally in the spotlight.

The crowd was captured by the holographic films projected – videos were immediately shared on the Internet, with extremely detailed descriptions that intrigued many cinema and music lovers.
